Life Is Good

I am apologizing yet again for my lack of blog posts. I'm so sorry! There, I said it! 50% of me has been hoarding them and the other 50% has been super busy! I'm not complaining about being busy though! I love it! I shot a wedding last night and someone I have never met came up to me and said, "so you must be busy because you haven't posted on your blog for a while." Yes very and so awesome having a fan who I didn't know! :) It won't be much longer and I'll be posting like crazy.

Life has been nuts but I'm loving it! Back in the Midwest currently and will be here for a couple of weeks. I am finishing up a wedding today, have a wedding from June and one from July I'll be working on next, 5 shoots from last week in Utah, and then on to the portrait sessions/weddings I have here. All 17 of them.... :) Enough yapping from me though. I have to get to work. Happy weekend ya'll and you'll be seeing more of me soon! Until then, here is some eye candy for ya!

Supreme French Toast!

This is BY FAR the BEST french toast I have ever had. My taste buds were doing a happy dance with every bite I took. Tony was equally impressed. I watched him take the first bite and I'm pretty sure he closed his eyes as he chewed up the yummy goodness! Breakfast for dinner?? YES please! Enough of me talking. Here is the recipe! Thank you thank you to the lovely lady who submitted this fabulous recipe!

French Toast Supreme

3 eggs

1/4 cup milk

1 tbsp sugar

1 tsp vanilla

1 4oz carton whipped cream cheese

12 slices cinnamon bread

In bowl combine eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla. Spread 1 tbsp cream cheese on 6 slices of bread and top remaining slices to form sandwiches. Dip sandwiches in egg mixture. Fry lightly on greased skillet until golden brown. Top with Apple Cinnamon Syrup.

Apple Cinnamon Syrup

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/3 cup water

2 tbsp butter

1 tsp corn starch

1/2 tsp cinnamon

3 med apples, peeled and thinly sliced

Bring brown sugar, water, cornstarch and cinnamon to a boil. Boil for 2 min until thick while stirring rapidly. Reduce heat to medium. Add apples, cook for 10 to 12 min or until apples are tender.

First off, I want to remind you if you were one of the chosen, DO NOT post what specific recipe was yours on my blog or Facebook page. You can whoop and holler all you want about being picked but don't say which is yours. I don't want my hubbies choice to be swayed based on the owner of the recipe (I doubt it would be anyway but I want to stay fair). I want it to be based on flavor and pure enjoyment!

I will say that I had over 20 recipe's and I had a hard time choosing. So hard I changed it to 6 instead of 5. I chose 2 recipes that I knew he'd love, 2 that I knew I'd really like, and the last 2 are something we have never had before, not even a similar variation of. All of the recipe's I received sounded very yummy. I plan to print them off and try them all eventually. So far we have made 2 of the 6 and OH EM GEE!! Delicious! He loved them both! Stay tuned for photos and shared recipes.

In no particular order, here are the top 6 recipes I chose

Bawl Baby/New Baby

I am bawling right now. I am so happy---but I can't believe how much of a baby I am. No t.v. or music on right now. I am a sap for happy endings and beautiful love songs and lots of times they make me cry.

I am crying because of a text message. One of my oldest friends texted me two minutes ago to tell me that her little baby girl Jacelyn has finally arrived! My little Kersha is a mommy. She has a baby. Of her very own.

Kersha- I am so very proud of you and all that you have done in life. You have been an amazing friend thoughout the 13 years that I have known you. I am so excited to see your little family grow and I know you will be the best mother. I wish you, Brian, and baby J all of the love in the world. I am so happy for you!

So I'm sitting here making my grocery list because we have NOTHING right now. I am at a loss. I feel like we eat a lot of the same stuff lately. I want to "spice" things up a bit in the kitchen and for you faithful followers out there so I decided to run a contest. This idea seriously just came to me less than 5 minutes ago. I am pretty fly by the seat of my pants so this should be fun. This has NOTHING to do with photography but another love of mine! FOOD!!!

I want your recipe's. What is your favorite?

It must be something that doesn't cost me a fortune to make, hours to prepare, and it has to be a main course. It can be a meat, casserole, soup, whatever. Just something that could be a main course. Share your family's secret recipe (I won't tell), your quick fix meal, something that will make my mouth water! All recipe's must be submitted by this Sunday at midnight.

I'll pick the 5 that sound most appealing to me and make them over the course of the next couple of weeks with your recipe and a photo of it posted on my blog.

Who will judge these prize winning dishes?? My husband. He loves food almost as much as I do. I won't tell him who submitted the recipe so it will be all about the meal. I'd consider myself a good cook. Don't worry, I won't screw up your dish! :) P.S. He doesn't really love vegetables, liver, or ranch dressing--just a couple of hints for you.

So I know it's been about a week since my last blog post. I've already had 2 people ask me "what's up with that?" Bottom line. I am trying to get sessions edited for ordering before I blog or post on Facebook. While at the same time I am hoarding my blog posts--yes hoarding--because I want to save them for something new and exciting I have coming up. Should only be a week or two. I have a couple of surprises in the works but this one has been a LONG time comin'.

Proud to be an American

From the back seat of the boat I watched him as he peered over his shoulder every few seconds, looking up into the sky with a smile on his face. As I watched him, I secretly cried behind my three dollar Miley Cyrus sunglasses. It was a good cry though. One full of pride. I tried not to cry, I wanted to play it cool. But I have a big heart and just a few moments before, the strings attached to the bottom of it were violently yanked on and the flood gates came open. He didn't see me cry. Phew---he teases me for being so soft but also tells me how much he loves me for that.

I quickly wiped the tears that had managed to run down under my glasses and replayed what I had just witnessed in my head for the 3rd or 4th time. I know that he must have been too because every time he turned around, I am sure that he was praying for the jets to fly by again.

It was Monday, the day after the 4th of July. We had spent the weekend at Lake Powell in Southern Utah. We were tired, sun burnt, and bruised, but as we headed back to the marina to load the boat, we took in the last few miles of beautiful scenery we had been a part of all weekend. As I started to doze off on the squishy back seat, the relaxing peace was put to a halt by a very excited husband.

"LOOK BABE, LOOK AT THE JETS!"

At that moment, two very handsome USAF fighter jets flew over top of us down through the canyon. Twisting and turning. It was almost as if they were playing a game of tag. The were so close to us, maybe 60 yards above us. And so loud. Nellis AFB in Las Vegas is not far from Lake Powell, and from what I understand, the pilots will fly through the twists and turns of the lake's steep canyons for practice.

It was an amazing site. I couldn't help but smile watching them and feeling proud to be an American. This minor event in my life is one that I will never forget. I hope you all had a safe and happy 4th of July weekend!

Holly & James....*sigh*....I've known these two for a while now. I actually went to college with them and could definitely name off a few fond memories I have with and of these two. Such a fun couple and great people! I wasn't even nervous during their session...I usually still have a little bit of butterflies when first heading out to a shoot! We had a blast. You all know how much I adore engagement sessions. Well this may have been my most favorite yet!

Happy Birthday To My Best Friend ♥

My bestest friend in the world is 24 today. I look at her and know that she is a grown woman but to me she is still little. She is still my little sister and I always have and always will have the feeling of wanting to take care of her. I'd do anything for her. She is the one person in life who has never strayed my side. We've had disagreements, and as kids--oh boy did we have disagreements, but we have always talked and worked things out. She gets me. And I get her. She holds me up because in more ways, she is a realist. She tells me the obvious when my head is too far up in the clouds.

Some random things about Katie that I think you would enjoy:

1. She was a tomboy as a kid--big time--she even had a "boyish" hair cut. But now she is all about wearing eye makeup, painting her fingernails, and curling her hair. She's still a tough girl though. I know she could kick my butt.

2. She has a strange obsession with miniature things. Like a mini version of well...anything. If I gave her a Hot Wheels for her birthday it would probably make her day.

3. She is an amazing cook and she pays attention to the minor details when in the kitchen. Eating a meal made by her is almost like going to a fancy restaurant. Almonds on my green beans?? YES PLEASE.

4. Speaking of kitchen--she likes collecting strange kitchen gadgets--especially mini versions. ;)

5. She listens to every single kind of music out there, stuff I've never heard of but she gets me to like.

6. She will come home and clean her house and the next day it looks like a tornado hit it. I think that's the creative part of her brain.

7. Speaking of creative (it runs in the fam) she is super artistic too. She is amazing with clay and can draw really well too. She has a tattoo she designed herself.

8. She's kind. I never see her be mean to anyone and at the same time don't really know much of anyone being mean to her. She's just really fun to be around and easy going.

9. She's the only person who wouldn't lie to me when I ask her "does this outfit make me look fat?"

10. She is real. As real as real can be. I admire her for her ability of always staying true to herself and just being Katie.

I love you little seester and I am so proud of the woman you have become. You have helped me and taught me things that I will hold on to forever. I miss you every day and I am so sorry I have missed out on your birthday again. I will be there in spirit. No tequila or peanut butter tonight. Call later!

Look at what my fabulous mother-in-law found for me! For only $2.00! 3 dark pink sammy, swammy, swanson....oh Samsonite suitcases, I was way off! Haahaa---that's my "trying to be funny" kicking in!

I have been searching for these on EBay for about 5 months now and the cheapest I've seen a set like this go was for 65.00. Can you believe it, Internet!?! TWO DOLLARS! Can't wait to use this with some little baby girls, or maybe for my upcoming venture! Or a girlie girl senior! Heck, once I get these babies cleaned up I might be using them for myself!! :)

P.S. My dog is the cutest! You can't deny that!

Omaha Travel Dates: August-1st Round

I will be headed back to Omaha/Sioux City area for about 17 days in August and will be available for portrait sessions. What inspires you??

What drives you? Pushes you to do things that you normally wouldn't do? Above anything else, mine is love. In it's most simplistic form. Love moves me and pushes me to keep dreaming, hoping. I couldn't go on without love in my life.

When I see these moments between my clients they know. And they laugh at me because I usually let out this deep lovey sigh...and then run over to show them in the view finder.

I challenge you. I challenge you to open up your heart and let the things that inspire you lead you in your every day life. I promise then, that it will be a life well lived.

October Boudoir Marathon?

Birthdays, Birthdays Everywhere!!!

Yes another birthday today to a very important person in my life. My baby brother. Except he really isn't a baby any more. He is a man. A 22 year old man. A man that I am very proud of but miss very much. I haven't seen him in over a year.

Dillon...where to start. Such a good little boy and we always got a long. We have a lot in common. We both love to read and excelled in music while in school. We both were always kind of quiet and shy but that changed for the both of us as we grew older. You think I'm artistic?? You should see this kid...er..um..man!

After HS he enlisted with the United States Navy and is currently stationed on a base in Norfolk, V.A. He has a beautiful little family who I don't see enough either. I was so lucky to get to see Whitney and the boys on their trip back to Iowa when I was also back in April. His two sons, Cal and Atticus, they have my heart. I am Aunt Mamy...as Cal likes to say. Okay enough about that I am getting all teary eye'd, Internet.

I am so proud of the man you have become Dillon. You are a great husband, an awesome daddy, and your willingness to serve our country makes you a very honorable man. I miss and think about you every day baby brother. Happy Golden Birthday! I love you.

...to one of my most favorite people on the planet! Today my sister-in-law, Austin, turns 27! I am so sad that I can't be there to celebrate with her today but so happy that good old AGB invented telephones.

I can't really describe her without going into major detail. There are so many great qualities about her that I adore and she has made my transition of moving to Utah so enjoyable and so much easier!

Before I hung up the phone with her this morning I told her to be sure and spoil herself today. I said, "what are your indulgences?" Her response, "FOOD!" This may not be as funny to you, Internet, but to me its hilarious because she is super fit and lean. This girl is the type of person who will look up the menu online before she heads out to a restaurant so she can make sure she has enough time to decide between all of the yummy dishes that the establishment has to offer. The right choice for her is very important and she is not here to disappoint her buds...taste buds that is.

I love you Aust and I hope you have a super wonderful day! Only one more week and I'll be headed your way with a great big hug! :) Love you sis!

Baby Leighton...sigh...you are so adorable....and you are breakin' my heart. I want one just like you. Plans of waiting are what's in store for us as newlyweds but seeing all these babies makes me think that I can't wait much longer. How is one supposed to plan a future in wedding photography when they want to have babies. If my parents had it their way they'd say go for the babies! :) Something my husband and I definitely need to figure out.

Leighton was so easy to work with. She hardly fussed and even when she did her cuteness made up for it. Look at those little intricate lips. Such a pretty girl. Her big sis Kenley is just as cute and I love and miss their momma Megan to death.

Thank you Megs for sharing your little pretties with me! They are beautiful little angels and you are such a good momma. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about how much love you have for these little ladies. Some day I hope to be as great as a mommy as you are!

Karly & John: Omaha Engagement Photography

It was a super hot night night when we took these photos. A lot hotter than I ever remember May being. We took breaks here and there, I used my dress to wipe sweat off my soggy forehead, my hair turned into an afro (and they were nice enough to not make fun of me), but we carried on and got some great shots of these two. We hit up down town Omaha and I was DETERMINED to NOT go to the Old Market, but instead the outskirts of it. I love the colors in this first shot! You all know how I love bright colors! :) We ended at a charming covered bridge along the river that I absolutely adored. These two were super laid back and fun--my kind of couple! I can't wait for their August wedding! Enjoy!

I can't believe how long its been since I've done an I ♥ Faces weekly challenge! I have been so busy but I had to make time for this weeks challenge.

This is little Claire. Dollface huh? I love her expression. It looks like she's saying "Heyyyyyyyyyyy..." I met up with her and the rest of her family last week for some family and kiddo shots. She is such a tiny little thing. Not yet walking but thank goodness we had this sturdy little tree she could hold on to. More surprises comeing up with her as well. CJ: Utah Senior Photographer

C.J.--what an awesome kid! And what a small world. His super sweet momma found my fan page shortly after I moved to Utah. We discovered that her husband knows my father-in-law from back in the day and my sis-in-law Amanda has since ran into them at Subway and was able to put a face with a name because of these photos.

At first this young man was pretty apprehensive to have senior pictures taken, but I should say that I feel lucky in the fact that he admired my work and decided to go for it. And we had fun didn't we C.J.? We had a super laid back time, found some stellar locations, and got some shots that were exactly him! He also brought his pup, Bunny, who was absolutley adorable. I am so glad that you like them C.J. and Michele! This is probably one of my most favorite shoots to date!

Before I even got my gear ready to go Kristin INSISTED that she is horrible at taking pictures. Are you kidding me! Hello beautiful bright red hair and perfect skin!!! She just needed someone to bring out the "best in her". When it comes to photography anyway. Nick, gave off the "go with the flow" attitude from the minute I met him, and clearly my gut didn't lie. He was down for anything. I love guys like that. I'm married to one! :) I had a blast at this session, got to use some fun props, and two brand new locations.

I am so glad that you two have found each other. Kristin, you truly deserved someone great and I think you made the right choice. So happy for you guys and I look forward to seeing how your future turns out in the ride of life!

Why have just a boring old sign in book when you could have one of these? There's even enough space for friends and family to leave a short message if they'd like. Oooo...I just got another idea! How about for a baby shower with maternity photos and photos of Mom and Dad inside. Wouldn't it be awesome to be the baby, but only years later, being able to look back at warm welcoming wishes from friends and family (and make fun of Mom and Dad's old hairdos). Priceless!

Cameron: Utah Children's Photographer

Kids...where can I start? Do I have the right to talk deeply about these little humans...I'm not a momma yet. So what do I really know? I know that they can make you feel things. One minute they're tugging on my heart strings, the next I'm asking myself, "will I really be ready in a year or two?"

It's amazing to me how these little people have such adult like personalities. I feel that a large part of your childhood development plays a big part on who you will be as an adult. For this little guy below, he's really going to be a catch. For a lucky lady, for his teachers, his co-workers, friends, peers, family, etc. I adore him. He melts my heart, more than he makes me question the thought of being ready for mommyhood. He makes me CRAVE being a momma right now! :) This is Cameron. Sometimes we call him Cam or Camo. Or by special request, "Littlefoot". He is my new nephew. And I got a catch...as an Aunty. I've known him since he was just a tiny little guy. He just turned 4...I often forget that he's not 5.

He is a lover. He tells his momma often and out of nowhere that he loves her. He gives me hugs when I ask and he squeezes hard. He is a hero. On a recent camping trip, I was trying to have a chat with the very cute and shy little Chloe when Cam came up to me and said, "You have to be careful with her Aunt Amy, she's just this little." He is a dudes dude. All about dirt bikes, trains, nature, and being dirty. He is a good boy. He listens to Mom and Dad when they correct him. He has a soft heart. His feelings get hurt, and you know at the exact moment because he crosses his arms and looks down. He is funny. Really funny and talks with a little gravely sound in his voice when he tells jokes and stories--kind of sounds like Gonzo. Speaking of jokes, no matter what it is, the punch line is always, "because it's funny!!!!" And then he bursts out into contagious and loud laughter. And it always makes me laugh.

These are just a few of the reasons why he is amazing. I am so glad to know this little man and so exited to watch him grow into a big man.

I am so excited to go and learn from this fantastic colleague! All of your comments were super duper touching and I even appreciate all of the "thumbs up" I got on my photo! Again, I am extremely blessed to be doing something that I absolutely adore and it's all because of you guys, my wonderful family and friends, and my very amazing husband. Life is the best it's ever been and that says a lot because I've had a very satisfying life up until now. Thank you thank you thank you!!!

As a reminder I will be out of the office all day tomorrow and most of Thursday as I am traveling back to Omaha via AmTrak. I am so excited to take the train, except for the fact that they don't have WIFI! :( I will respond to emails, phone messages, and Facebook messages by week end. I leave you with a before and after photo. I have had a lot of people ask me lately about what kind of camera I use, what lenses I own, and what program I edit in. I have a Nikon d300s, I own a variety of lenses but my favorite is my Nikkor 17-55mm 2.8, and I edit most of my photos in Photoshop and sometimes Lightroom. No doubt I have some fantastic equipment that allows me to get creative while shooting, but I really enjoy editing. A lot of photographers don't because of how time consuming it is (there will be an upcoming post on this soon) but I really do. And I'm so happy to have finally found an editing style that fits what I want. I love bright colors, you can definitely see that in my work, and every once in a while I'll throw in a little vintage flare. I have no problem sharing my equipment with you and shooting techniques, but as much as I love you all, I can't share my secret edit recipe's. They are what make me and my style my own. On My Toes...

On my toes...that's definitely where these two little kiddos kept me! It was fun though..and I needed my exercise. :) It's so amazing to me how kids have developed a lot of who they are already going to be once they become adults. Take Addison for example. She is super independent and she knows what she wants! She PREFERS sitting on an old gas barrel to have her picture taken, rather than on a soft comfy blanket on the ground. Hey, when a woman knows what she wants, she'll stop at nothing to get it, right?

Ethan on the other hand is going to grow up and be quite the jokster. He had me laughing most of the time. So hard, I had to let my camera dangle around my neck because I couldn't help but use my hands to cover up the obnoxious laugh coming from my mouth!

Thank you Tami for sharing your cute little kiddos with me! I had a blast!

MVAO 2011 Senior Rep: Megan

And now for the lovely lady who is my female rep for my Alma Mater...Megan! I've known her since she was little. I even babysat her a couple of times. Yikes I feel old! :) This chica has a certain "vibrancy" about her. She almost glows and she is always smiling. The serious pictures just aren't her. When I asked her to keep a more straight face she said, "I can't do it because...I'm" always smiling." And then we both burst into laughter. I don't blame her! Knockout smile for sure!

Little Girl Is Growing Up

This is my step-sister, Anna. How old would you guess she is? 18, 19, 24?? Nope you are wrong! 15!!!! Crazy, I know! She went to prom this year with the very recognizable Brady (I posted his senior session yesterday). I can't believe how much she has grown. I've known her since she was a very little. Were talking 2 or 3 years old. Beautiful right? Back off boys! :) We took a few of the more traditional "prom poses" but I'd like to consider myself pretty nontraditional. So naturally I turned them into my little puppet models. This is only the beginning for you Anna. I think I've worn Katie out.

I made them work it! They were naturals and it was a blast!

I tried to talk Anna into finding me a date but that didn't happen of course. I loved prom! The dressing up, makeup, dancing, after prom party. Maybe next year! That is if I can squeeze into one of my old dresses....

MVAO 2011 Senior Rep: Brady

Tips On What to Wear: Seniors

I've been booking senior shoots for the upcoming summer and fall and have had a lot of seniors ask me what to wear for their shoot. If you know me well enough, you know I LOVE fashion! I may not be an expert at this, but I'll tell you what works for me behind the camera and for my clients in front of the camera. Here are some basic tips on clothing topics...

1. Color: Now there is nothing wrong with a solid black dress or dress shirt but I think if you want you your photos to pop-color is the way to go. I would stay away from neon's in the main thing you are wearing. A dress that mimics the color of Mountain Dew, in my opinion, may not look the best. But a pretty green or yellow would be a yes! I personally love when a black dress is layered with a bright colored scarf or a black dress shirt with a colored undershirt. Pick your favorite color(s)

2. Layers: Lots and lots of layers. I LOVE layers-I worked at The Buckle for gosh sakes and that place was all about layers! Even a colored tanktop peeking out of the top or from under the main shirt is great. Its all about depth and dimension. Some layering ideas? A blazer or tailored jacket, vests, tanktops, cardigans, I could go on. If it's questionable, bring it with anyway and I'll give you my honest opinion.

3. Patterns: I think patterns are tricky. If you want to wear something with a pattern on it, make sure its bold and makes a statement. In my opinion, stripes are one of the hardest patterns to work with. The bigger the better. Small, tiny, little stripes can play tricks on the eyes. Ladies, if you plan to wear stripes, try to steer away from the horizontal stripes especially if you are self conscious about your mid-section. Horizontal stripes make you look bigger. Patterns I like? Bold florals are my fav!

4. Brand Rep: Okay, so maybe I'm way off here and this is totally out already (you have to remember I grew up in a time when it was cool to have CK, Lucky, American Eagle, Aero, Abercrombie, and Gap plastered across the front of your shirt) but don't wear clothes that have brand names, logos, letters, or teams on the front of them. They totally take away from the subject...YOU. Your senior session is about you, not the designer, the Green Bay Packers, or the number 13.

5. Accessories: I LOVE accessories and like layering, these can bring a lot of depth or dimension to your photos. Hats: Love them! All kinds! Okay so maybe your favorite sports team is okay here. All styles look great and they can totally complete an outfit! Bring all that you own to your session and we will figure out what works best! Scarves: These are great for adding color to that black dress I was talking about. Jewelry: Rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets. I love the look of layered necklaces right now! Headbands/hair clips: This is more for the ladies. You know the ones I'm talking about. The super fun feathered and or fabric made ones.

6. Hobby and extracurricular outfits: Play a sport? Bring your uniform! Are you in the marching band? Bring your instrument and or uniform. Again, this is about you!

7. Hair: Boys--if you have a shorter style, make sure its nice and pieced together, wear some gel if you wish. Guys with longer hair-comb it and make sure its out of your eyes, forget the combing part if you have dreads. Girls- again, I love texture! If you are the type who likes to curl your hair, even if its just the ends, do it! There is not a problem with straight hair either. Just make it look pretty and out of your beautiful face!

8. Makeup: Keep it natural and what you would wear on a normal day! Heavy eyeliner, bright eye shadow, and glitter will only take away from your natural beauty. Did I mention glitter?? NO GLITTER! Things I do like?? Playing up a pretty pout with a fun color. I love bright red lipstick, but for this to look best, less everywhere else is more!

10. Shape: Bring outfits that show off your shape. Stay away from the big, baggy, and frumpy styles.

2011 Senior Rep From Carbon High: Sara

Isn't she a beauty! I found Sara on this amazing little website called Facebook. First off I found her name in the newspaper a few months back. She is part of the basketball team at Carbon High that just went to the state tournament and will be returning again next year as a senior. We had fun a few Friday's ago roaming the streets of Helper which is a small town near where she and I live. The town has a lot of history and is right at the mouth of the canyon that heads to SLC. FAQ: Wedding Package Extra's

I have been in the process of booking fall weddings and even weddings for next year and I have had quite a few questions come from brides regarding the "extras" to chose from along with their wedding packages. I figured, this would be a great time to write a blog, that way I don't drive myself zany typing the answers over and over again! :) So, here ya go!

Engagements:

Engagement photos are pretty self explanatory but I wanted to include a few other tidbits of information. Come ready to show some lovin'. No, not to me but to each other. One way or another I'm going to get you guys to loosen up and act as if I'm not really there. Yes, I will probably make you kiss a couple of times. I want you to be yourself. This is a once in a lifetime photo session and I want you to love these as much as the wedding photos. Props?? YES, you can bring them. Anything that may reflect the two of you in your photos is totally acceptable! Puppy, hobbies, old camera, quilt, bicycle, whatever you please. The skies the limit!

Bridals:

Honestly, I had never really heard of bridals before I had started my photography adventure. I am finding that bridals really aren't as popular in the Midwest as what they are in Utah. But, I HIGHLY recommend them to all brides no matter where you live! I wish I had done them. A bridal session happens before the wedding. Once the dress has been hemmed and you are ready to go like it were the actual wedding day is the time to book your bridal session. Why do I highly recommend them? This is your chance as a bride to have lots of time to get some beautiful shots of you in the dress that you are meant to wear for one purpose in life. You get to be pretty and pose anywhere but a church. The location will probably be nothing you'd expect and my suggestion is shooting these in the early evening so we can soak up the setting sun. The yummy glow later in the day is extremely beautiful for these type of photos. What you can expect as far as my style is a more "modelesque" type approach. Ill probably make you put your hands in awkward positions, have you grab your hair, touch your face. You may feel awkward in these poses but once I'm through you'll look like a bride straight off of the runway during New York Fashion week! Please plan to bring a bouquet with you. It can be the same as what you plan to have on your wedding day or you can step outside of those plans and grab something cheap at the local grocery store. Wildflowers always look beautiful with some twine or raffia tied around the stems.

Groomals:

See above and just add the groom in. This will work for brides not as worried about having their groom see them in their dress for the first time while walking down the isle. Keep in mind that we can coordinate a "first look" during this session so that it will be just as special. I would highly recommend this session as well if you are wanting something more relaxed and that way we don't have to try and squeeze these in with the wedding party, family, and extended family photos on the wedding day. Here is a chance for both of you to look like models and have lots and lots of time to get the rockstar shots you are wanting with no rush.

As a side note, a first look is when I coordinate a special moment for the bride and groom to see each other before they walk down the isle. We did this at my wedding because we took all of our photos before the ceremony. You can view the photos from my big day here to have an idea.

Day After Session:

This is a SUPER fun session. The wedding day is over, the dress has been worn, and you have two options. You can either have it stuffed in one of those vacuum bags and let it sit in the top of your closet for the next 25 or more years in hopes that your daughter will want to wear it on her wedding day. Or, you can put it on one more time and do something a little more extreme in it. During this session you should feel free to do things that you wouldn't normally do on your wedding day in fear that you may get the dress a little dirty. Some examples- head to the horse stables and hop on bareback, hair floating in the wind. Grab a pair of pumps, chunky jewelry, and a super fun veil or headpiece. Maybe go to a run down building, alley way, or old bar. Again, the sky is the limit during this session. I have even seen where brides have jumped into a lake or pool with their wedding dress on or splattered their wedding dress with paint the colors from their wedding day. If you need suggestions, I can definitely give you some. Again, props are welcome. And so are grooms! :)

Woots & Boots

So as I type this I am balled up on the couch in my little cave, a.k.a. the living room. I am sick. Stuffy, running nose, sneezing, tons of pressure on my chest, bloodshot eyes, more sneezing, coughing, and because my immunity is down....cold sores on the right corner of my lip. Gross I know! But it's almost bittersweet. Just to give you a visual, our living room is in the back of the house and when you first enter the room there is a sliding patio door on your left and right side. They are straight across from each other. I love them because no matter what time of day, there is always lots of beautiful natural light shinning in through one or the other. Today is a different story. Today the blinds are closed on both sides. My little cave is cozy and dark. Two yummy scented candles are sitting on opposite ends of the couch and giving off a soothing, warm glow. In front of me is a 48'' (I think its 48) Vizio that is allowing me to get caught up on season two of Dexter. GLORIOUS!!! I have my Ruby Red Grapefruit juice glass and a mug of tasty hot tea on the end table next to me. That's right! I'm double fistin it. Cuz that's how I role! A Pottery Barn magazine lends a friendly hand in giving me ideas of new decorating ideas. And my two pups are here cuddled up next to me. I have to move them around every so often because 1. I'm freezing and need them to be laying on top of me to warm me up. Just a little tip for ya, puppies make fantastic little heaters! Or 2. I am having a hot flash and they are way too much on top of the running furnace and layers of furry blankets. And what's on my mind? I'm wondering if I will be able to actually taste the homemade chicken noodle soup I will be eating for super tonight.

New Camera--My First Subject: Savannah

I finally got my new camera about a week and a half ago and got to take it out for a test run with Little Miss Savannah. We headed to the train tracks here in East Carbon and had a blast. Watching her play and laugh in front of me and my camera made me happy. It made me miss my childhood too. I was just like her.

I LOVED playing outside and always had plenty of new adventures to chase where I grew up. But I HATED getting dirty. Huge difference from my two younger siblings. I hated it, a lot! Dirty hands, clothes, face. I hated planting flowers and our vegetable garden but I never told my mom that. I was constantly running to the hose to wash myself off. The only thing I didn't mind getting dirty were my feet, but I think that's because they were under me and I rarely saw them. I went barefoot a lot...living on a farm. Ewe! I know! Don't even get me started on fishing. We had 2 family ponds behind our house and we were there constantly. I loved casting out and reeling in but there was no way in heck I was touching the worm to put it on the hook and taking the fish off once I'd caught one. I left that up to my dad!---The fishing part isn't as bad these days---Still to this day I despise getting dirty. I guess its just a girly girl thing!

Anywho, here's Savannah! What a doll huh? :) I think that she looks sort of like a mini version of Jessica Claire :)

Super Excited!

I am soooo excited for this weekend! Like UBER excited! In the words of my photog friend Ashley McCarty, "Happy Dance, Happy Dance" excited!!!

So I've lived in Utah for almost a month now and my photography business, as I'd expected, has started a little slow. I am being patient though because when I first started out in Omaha (March 09), I'd have 1-2 shoots for the first few months. But by the end of the summer (Aug 09) I had had 12 shoots and wanted to pull my hair out because I was so busy! 12 shoots plus working 45 hrs per week at my full time job was CA-RAZY!

So here I am starting over...common'...where you at Utah? Just kiddin! Patience Amy, patience! I have an exciting special coming up for my Utah followers. So back to why I am so excited...after this weekend I will have enough photography to keep me busy for a couple of weeks. How is this possible?

Number 1--Because today I have a senior shoot with the lovely Sara from Carbon High! YIPPIEE!! I haven't had a girl senior shoot in ages!!! So excited!!!

Number 2--Because tomorrow is my first ever workshop! I have been looking forward to attending this workshop for a little over 2 months. In putting on her first ever workshop, she only took a small small small group of us and it sold out in a matter of hours. I get to learn from my most favorite photographer on the planet and she is right here in Utah! She, is also known as Brooke Kinsey. Brooke is the owner of Blush Photography out of the SLC area. Check out her work. It is fantastic...it blows my mind! I am so moved by her images! They are beautiful and the moods and attitudes of each picture is totally feel-able (another new word I made up) to me. I could look at her pictures for hours and never get tired of it! The workshop is called "With Rapture" and we will be learning not only about camera basics and lighting, but also about how to interact with our clients and evoking passion. Passion--look at her images. Lot's of passion that's for sure. I am super excited to learn from her and I can't wait to apply all of this to my own clients! Stay tuned!!

Daily Mantra

So yesterday I was chatting with my fabulous friend Lisa who lives back in Omaha. Lisa and I have known each other almost 2 years but it feels like I've known her for years. You couldn't ask for a better friend in her...and daughter, sister, coworker, employee, dog mom, bundle of fun! She about died when I told her this. But its true. She is super genuine and would be there for anybody!

We got to chatting about the other wonderful people in our life and how this is the time when we really need to hold on to the ones that truly love and care about us. I'm not 18 years old anymore ya know! I love making new friends and being the life of the party in a big group of people. But I've realized that I don't need one zillion best friends to be happy. I have the best (small) group of girlie friends and I intend to hold on to them forever...near or far. They know who they are! I have some pretty great guy friends too! Can't forget the boys!

Lisa said something to me yesterday that really hit close to home. I intend to hold on to this quote forever too. She said:

{...I'm just trying to keep reminding myself that I can't go wrong if I just surround myself with love and give it right back...}

How true is that? She laughed when I told her that I wanted to make it one of my favorite quotes on my Facebook wall. But I wasn't joking! Love you so much and miss ya Lisa! Thanks for making my day...yet again! :)

Katie and Krista asked me to take a headshot for them so that they could make their own Facebook Fanpages. Both of these lovely ladies are estheticians at Sanctuary Day Spa in Omaha, NE and they are ready to take their business to the next level.

Sanctuary offers a wide variety of services to include professional skin care, body wraps, massages, pedicures, manicures, and so much more. The spa is beautiful inside and you can't help but feel relaxed as soon as you walk in the door. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to knowing whats best for you as a client. I had a facial a few weeks ago and it was one of the most fantastic "me days" I've ever had. I plan to keep going on a regular basis.

"Dump" Chili (Because you dump it all in)

1-1.5 pounds of ground meat (I used pork)1 clove of garlic minced
1 small onion chopped (I used a yellow onion and only half of it)
1 green pepper chopped
1 red pepper chopped
2 cups of diced red tomatoes (I used a large can from the store)1 can of black beans drained and rinsed
1 can of corn
2-3 tbsp of chili powder
2 tbsp of salt
1 tbsp of pepper
1 tbsp of oregano
1 cup of chicken broth (I boiled a chicken breast in a little more than a cup of water because I was out of broth and then diced the chicken and threw that in too.

Brown the meat, garlic, and onion. When done dump the mixture into crock pot. In no particular order dumb all other ingredients into the crock pot as well. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Serves 4-6.

This chili even looked beautiful! I will definitely make it again in the fall!

"Even Better" Cheddar Bay Biscuits

2 C Bisquick
1/8 tsp garlic powder
2/3 C milk
2 tbsp butter
2 C shredded cheddar cheese (we didn't have cheddar so we used colby jack)

Mix all ingredients together and bake at 425 degrees for 8-10 minutes on a greased cookie sheet.

Melt 1/4 C of margarine or butter and 1/4 tsp of garlic in the microwave and brush the top of the finished biscuits with the mixture. Makes 8-10 large biscuits.

I thought these were better than Red Lobster!!!

Wednesday Wedding Inspiration: Candy Buffets

Candy Buffets seem to be all the rage right now in weddings! I had one for my wedding and although I have mixed feelings about how it turned out, I still like the idea. I think I may have bought too much candy...we are still eating the left over gum. I just wanted to make sure I had enough and because our wedding was the Saturday after Halloween, I got some good deals on candy.

Ours was very very simple. Most of the candies were in little pouches, hence the Halloween candy, so I didn't even have to buy scoops. We had mini packages of M&M's, Nerds, Starbursts, Snicker bars and much more. I have seen some brides go as far to order candies in their colors. Green jellybeans, white chocolate covered pretzels, blue and white M&M's. There are a ton of places out there online where you can do this, but keep in mind that it can get a bit expensive.

HEY-O!!! I am alive! Its been a long week and a half but I am here blog readers! The Internet issue has been slow coming. I am using a Verizon Internet card right now and it no likey de mountains! I am surrounded by mountains! Not joking! My real, true, actual Internet will be alive and kickin' by Tuesday at the latest! Whoopie! My need to create has been through the roof! I am going nutz-o! I am officially a Utahian...hmm is that a word? :) It is now! But yes...its official! I got a P.O. box yesterday! You are stuck with me now Utah! I am typing from my mom's laptop as of now. I should have my computer and desk tonight and then internet shortly following! WHOOPIE! I have lots and lots of posts to blog yet and a couple of sessions I will need to edit! I am sooo excited to be here though and get settled. I am probably half way done unpacking and in the process I've been dreaming up ways to drum up business. Should be some exciting stuff to come in the next month for those of you followers living near me! Stay tuned for some amazing promotions I have coming up!

This was a last minute shoot I snuck in before the packing began! My mom and her best friend Lisa asked me to take some fun and casual photographs of them. Casual is NOT a good word for these two when they are together! They are hilarious! I was doubled over in laughter and half the time I couldn't breath because of how hard I was laughing! These two have been friends for a lonnnnnng time! My mom is moving to Utah as well and Lisa is really gonna miss her! A beautiful and fun place for you to come visit Lisa! I loved this shoot. May be one of the most fun I've done yet! I was hoping to do a best friends shoot with all of my girlies before I left but maybe have to wait until I'm back in April!

Today Is My Blogiversary!

HOLY SCHMOLEY this last year has flown! 1 year ago today I wrote my very first blog post. Fast forward to today and my wildest dreams are coming true right before my eyes! I am doing something I truly love! Of course I'd like things to go a little faster but that's just me and the "generational, need for instant gratification mode" kicking in. I know that it takes hard work and I feel like my hard work has just begun. Oh trust me...this last year has been crazy! Planning a wedding, working 45 hours per week, and doing photography on the side! BUSY BUSY BEE! But I love being busy and I can't wait for the future!

In honor of my blogiversary I had some photos taken of yours truly! Who doesn't like having some fun photos of themselves anyway? I do, I do!!! You'll notice them first of all in my new banner (the whole blog with my own name will come someday soon--love you though blogspot). My husband Tony actually took them for me. He doesn't have a ton of knowledge running a camera but I gave him a quick mini lesson and was so surprised with how well he did. Folks he may be the next JD! <--My photographer friends got that joke! :) We took these last month when I was in Utah. A few photos I follow from SLC have shot at this cute little vintage house many times and I had to go! It was the most beautiful abandoned home I have ever seen! I cannot wait to go back!

Seniors and Travel Dates!

So even though the last few weeks of traveling with my mom have kept me super busy, I've had a bit of time to slow down and think about what's coming up for me in the next few months. I thought I'd throw out a couple of important dates/things to know to all you fabulous folks out there! Especially 2011 Seniors. With the summer and early fall quickly approaching, I am planning my travel schedule back to Iowa/Nebraska. Only 10 days until I move to Utah, but guess what?? I will be back in Sioux City and Omaha quite a bit this spring and summer. Although I'm moving 15 hours away, I am available for travel. I already have quite a few weddings booked in the Midwest and I plan to stay for more than just the weekends when I come. Were talking a week, or two, or even three. So, while I am back I will be available for weekday evenings, weekdays, and even a few weekend shoots.

My move date is the 28th of this month and my first trip back to the Omaha and Sioux City area will be in mid to late April. I do not have a date nailed down yet but have an idea. If you are interested in booking a shoot for sometime in April, PLEASE let me know now. I have a pretty large list of people in line already but will take a few more.

MVAO seniors and surrounding 2011 seniors, I will be back part of the summer and for a short time in the early fall months. Wednesday Wedding Inspiration: Photobooths!

I had a photobooth at my wedding and it was one of the best, and last, decisions we had made. I LOVED the idea of having one of these but all of the ones in the Omaha and surrounding that I had heard of were super expensive. We're talking 1,500.00 or more! Luckily my dad went to a wedding and Izzon Photography out of Sioux City, IA had a photobooth at that wedding and they were less than half the cost of what I'd found in Omaha. Luckily they were still available for booking just a month before my wedding!

My guests LOVED the photobooth. They went inside and got to pick from a box of props if they wanted to. Then the booth printed off 2 strips of photos. One for the guests as a momento and one for a scrap book Tony and I had put together. The guests posted our copy in the book and got to write and autograph next to their photo. SO FUN! Tony and I have even tossed around the idea of figuring out how to make one and starting a business in Utah. Below are some photos from our booth!

Missing My Valentine

So normally I'm not the negative type. I hate all negativity...all forms of it. When I see it coming I purposely swerve the other way. Sometimes I crank the wheel so hard I give myself whip lash! I just enjoy being happy and love being around happy people. At this time though I am going to be a teensy weensy bit negative! LIFE TODAY IS NOT FAIR! Not that I am a huge promoter out on the streets picketing for the Hallmark Holiday, but really, I don't hate it! I'm just not all about the flowers, (I like those for just because reasons) chocolate, (I LOVEEE me some chocolate all the time) or greeting cards (make me one--I'd like that a lot better). But I am a girl who likes to follow tradition and today one of my traditions was broken! NOT FAIR, SO ANGRY, HMMPHHH! You see, Tony and I have a little V-Day tradition we like to follow and today fell out of line in another year of our tradition.

We LOVE Carrabba's and we go every year on Valentines day. I usually make a "walk in" reservation a month in advance. The day is here, we drive the 15 minutes over to 144th and Maple, we sit and talk and love the heck out of each other while we wait an hour to be seated, and finally our comfy cozy spot at the pizza bar opens up. He orders chicken parm, I order the chicken marsala and we much on yummy salad, soup, and bread. We watch the making of mouth watering pizza's and the most beautiful desserts from our seats while chatting about how fast the last few years have flown but how much we are still in love. Such a wonderful time.

Today Tony is in Utah relaxing and I am in Nebraska sorting through wedding stuff that I am wanting to sell and get rid of. I threw around the idea about going to Carrabba's on my own but thought I'd probably lose it and cry all over my chicken! :) Okay maybe not sobbing crying but a few little tears. Luckily I have the company of my wonderful momma and we have had a great day packing and laughing.

I really really miss my love and not just today. Since he moved to Utah in October I've seen him a total of MAYBE 3 weeks. It's been rough. We decided that rather than either of us flying out for the weekend, we'd save our money for my move.

Here is my moment to be positive now. I am so LUCKY to have the Valentine I do. Near or far, I am truly blessed having him in my life. I can't imagine myself without him. I love ya Tone. Miss you so much and there's always next year right? Thank goodness SLC has a Carrabba's because trips back to Omaha every Feb 14th for two could get a little expensive! :)

Superbowl Yummies

Last night I went with my parents to a Superbowl party at a friends house. I wasn't much for watching the game, I like football and all but wasn't too thrilled about either of the teams playing. I planned to watch the commercials but that didn't happen either. Trying to push my way through 10 strong men for a front row seat every ten minutes wasn't ideal for me last night. So I just sat with all the ladies, swapped funny and recent stories, and stuffed my face. I LOVE Superbowl food...cheesy dips, mouth watering meatballs, rib meat sliding off the bone, Dawn's shrimp pizza, yummy raspberry jalapeno jelly over a succulent brick of cream cheese. I'm pretty sure I added 5 lbs to the scale last night and today's leftovers may just throw on another 2 or 3.

I wanted to share a recipe with you that my step-mom Camille made. SOOO YUMMY! I LOVE me some, as Dawn calls it, attitude adjustment, otherwise known as hot sauce. Chicken, cream cheese, blue cheese dressing, sourcream...yummy...white creamy sauces are sooooo bad for the figure but so delicious! Below is the recipe for this yummy buffalo'ness' that Camille cooked up!

Prep time 5 minutes

Servings: 16 people

Ingredients:

1 (8 ounce) package of cream cheese softened

1/2 C blue cheese salad dressing

1/2 C Frank's RedHot Original Sauces. Camille actually used the local Cookie's brand hot sauce

1/2 crumbled blue cheese or shredded mozzarella cheese (she used mozz)

2 cans of chunk chicken breast in water, drained. Or feel free to cook and cut up your own

Serve with assorted veggies and crackers

Directions:

1. In a bowl, stir the cream cheese with a form until smooth. Stir in the dressing, hot sauce, blue cheese dressing, and crumbled blue cheese or mozz. Stir in the chicken.

Camille put hers in a small crock pot and turned it on to medium.

It was super tasty and I had someday with my leftovers for lunch! Try it! You won't regret it!

So let's face it...I LOVE love stories. There's just something about holding hands, kisses on cheeks, playful giggling, the moment a man brushes a piece of his ladies hair out of her eyes, the teasing, the squeezing....uhhh!!! I can't can't get enough of love stories. Sometimes I feel like maybe I'm a little over the top. Like when I cry at the weddings, more like ALL of the weddings I've shot in the last year. I'm sure 2010 will be no different either!

I am such a sap. But I like bein a sap! Don't judge me ya'll! I could blame it on genes (my mom...she is a sap too) or that I have a soft heart. Maybe I am just too emotional. Or maybe it's that I picture myself in the place of others I shoot, see on tv and movies, the older couple walking through the mall holding hands...it's a vicious cycle I tell ya!

I also love happy endings which leads me to this photo shoot. Except I wouldn't say that the story of this trio has ended, just recycled maybe. I took these photos over a month ago but I recently saw a post on Facebook that related back to this photo shoot. Tanya, this beautiful mama/girlfriend posted the cutest thing on John's, the daddy/boyfriend, wall. It said:

"story of us...we meet, we love, we hate and boy did we hate good. We leave, we change, we meet again, we love even better, we have beautiful Toes (nickname for their daughter)...what a whirlwind of 8 years. I'm ready to do it again! :)"

When this little post popped up on my newsfeed I melted into a big pile of GOO on my office floor. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that Tanya and John wouldn't want to do the hate part again though! ;) Seeing them on this day was such a beautiful thing. They were all of the things I mentioned from above and boy did they laugh...A LOT!!! And Toes (baby Olivia) seems just as happy as her mommy and daddy. Maybe someday these two...hint hint...cough cough...will need an engagement and wedding photog!

Dr Evil & Lens Love!

Isn't it such a fantastic feeling when you feel like you have control of your life??? Okay...maybe I'm pushin' it. I know what you're thinking..."Amy, having control of her life...?" In the words of Dr. Evil, "Riiiiiiggghhhttt...". I'd like to think of myself as a little less evil though! I'm not really the type to torture others with sharks who have lasers on their forehead. My version of torture involves the whole, "will you please be my model for me...Pppplease??" My sister Katie knows all about that! :)

So maybe I don't have control of my life completely, but I do believe I have control of my thoughts, dreams, goals...my destiny. Not that it's all down hill from here. I'd prefer more of the roller coaster effect any day. Keeps me on my toes. ;) I am writing this post in regards to the fact that I finally have control of my new lens. The little bugger was a pain in the rear the first few times I used it, but I did my studying and with a little trial and error, I think I got it figured out! Hopefully figuring out this lens symbolizes me eventually having control over my life...at least 99% of the time. Heck, I'd settle for 85%!

Molly & Kyle: Engaged

Kudos to these two for braving the fa-fa-fa---FREEZING weather on this ice cold December day! I was lucky enough to have hand warmers in my coat pockets for a little bit of help but my hands literally felt like I'd shaken hands with Jack Frost himself. Not just the "hi, nice to meet ya," hand shake either. Good old Jack meant business that day. It was more of a "I want to do business with ya and make lots of money off of your company" type of hand shake. You know what I'm talking about? The one where it feels like the person is gonna shake your arm right out of the socket and off of your body? No doubt about it, I have a pretty good grip, but dang Jack! Ease up a bit! :) I cannot wait for spring to get here, and with spring comes the month of April. And with the month of April comes the wedding of these two wonderful people! Can't wait!

Last Day At Work

By the time you read this I'll be flying high in the sky, headed for SLC. Today was my last day with Celebrity Staff. It's been a good 2.5 years! I've made some great friends and can't believe how much I've grown personally and professionally. There are a lot of things that I learned in this job that I will take with me for life. I am sad to close this chapter in my life but also very excited to start a new chapter. My team in KC had a little get together after work for me while in the KC office on Tuesday. I got a basket full of KC goodies to include a yummy assortment of Boulevard beers (for those of you not from the Midwest...Boulevard is brewed in KC) , KC playing cards, shot glass, and coffee mug, and don't forget the KC BBQ seasonings! I will miss my Team KC! The Omaha branch also had a Mexican theme (my fav) pot luck for me today and got me a super cute cake! YUM!

Thanks to everyone at Celebrity for a great last 2.5 years. Because of you guys I have developed and grown my skills immensely and I feel that each and every one of you has helped prepare me for a new and exciting future with my photography business! All of the marketing and sales I have done in this job will definitely help me grow my photography business in Utah! I will miss you all so much!

Sisters

My little sister Katie and I grew up about 3 years apart and looking back, I feel bad for my mother. Katie and I had some fun times thats for sure! Playing in the barn, on our ginormous swing set Dad made for us, sledding down our hill in the winter. But, more often than getting along, we fought like cats and dogs. I tried to act like her mother and she did everything she could to get under my skin. She was a pro at it! I swear she took some AP class in elementary called "Driving Your Older Sister Bonkers: The Extreme Approach".

As kids it was more so picking at each other, slapping each other, and lipping off to one another. In high school (I was a senior, she was a freshman) it developed into stealing my clothes, stealing my favorite Cool Water perfume (it was cool back then--don't judge), and beating the heck out of one another with our backpacks. I had a car though and would make her ride the bus...she'd go behind mom and dad's back and get a ride with some older boy. I never won!

As time has gone on though and we have grown up, the despise, hate, and picking at each other has blossomed into friendship, a strong bond, and many good times. I don't know where I'd be without her. She has bailed me out a lot in the last few years and been there for me when I had no one else. She was my maid of honor at my wedding and gave the most touching speech that I laughed and cried at and will never forget. She is my buddy on most weekends and hangs out with me a lot on week nights since I've been home by myself a lot lately. I don't know what I will do without her when I move. She is probably the person whom I will miss most.

I am so glad to say that I have built such a strong relationship with all of my siblings. In the end, family will always be family and you just can't get rid of them. I wouldn't want to anyway!

These two little girlies are just over a year apart. From what I saw, they get along really well and were hugging each other and having so much fun together! Hopefully it lasts as long as possible for their mom and dad! Be sure to check back soon for family shots!

Well, where do I even begin. I think I might cry typing this post! Tears of joy and sadness. Emotional trainwreck right here! ;) Okay...breath in...breath out! Just playin'! I am okay for right now but that may all change in a few weeks. We'll see. I have some very sad but also exciting news. I am just gonna get it out there and say it.................. I am moving.............to Utah. Yes Utah! You shocked? I was when the decision was settled and am still a little in awe.

The bottom line is that Tony had an amazing opportunity come his way for a job...not just job...career opportunity, and it's not exactly in Nebraska. I know you probably have many more questions...when, how, what will Amy do now, who is going to be my main man photographer? (I know Diane and Laurie are thinking this--Love you ladies!) NO NEED TO PANIC though! Tony and I have spent a great deal trying to iron out the details and did even more talking this past weekend--via phone because he already lives there and it has been so hard! We haven't seen much of each other in the last couple of months. Hurts the heart--owie!

We will be living in Price, UT which is a town of about 10 thousand people, 2.5 hours south of Salt Lake City. We actually found a place when I visited a couple of weeks ago and it will be ready for move in at the end of February. My move date has changed a few times based on a place to live and what not but all I know is that I want to be there ASAP! What will I do when I get there? Not 100% sure, but I feel this is my window of opportunity to follow a dream that I wouldn't be able to otherwise. I feel like this is God telling me to "go for it, Amy, GO!" My own personal God cheerleader! Tony and I have kicked it around a lot, crunching numbers, weighing out the options, figuring out my travel schedule back to the area next year for the 7 weddings I have booked so far, and he feels that this is my moment. That I should go after it head on and follow what my heart most desires. I will admit that I am a little scared about this, but seriously...can Tony ever be wrong...can God? :) Tony has always had the best advice and been my biggest support. He is right, 99% of the time. And my parents are on his side too. I guess I am mostly scared about heading there with no base of business...but then again...I did that in Omaha a year ago too.

I have been devising a plan and I have been reading a lot! Blogs, a book, tutorials, and websites. I've been studying marketing techniques and asking other photogs what has worked for them and what hasn't. I have been saving, saving, saving, and will have my new camera ordered by the end of this week. A lap top and new lens will ensue with my tax return. I'm trying to be smart about all of this and come up with a plan on how to get my name out there and be recognized. I've been studying the area. What will my potential clientele look like, who will my competitors be, what times of year will be most profitable, how will I profit in times that are not very profitable? I've reached out to people in the community and found volunteers to help me get my name out there. By no means do I expect this to all happen over night, but I do believe with a lot of hard work, dedication, excellent client service, and a strong drive, I CAN do this. Maybe with a part time job on the side to start out--I'm flying by the seat of my pants when it comes to that part!

So, who will take my photos now? Well, in worse instances, I know a couple of really great photogs in the Omaha/Sioux City area. But in the best instance, you will book a session with me when I am back in town. As it looks, I'll be back quite a bit. And trust me, you will all know when I'll be back as those trips draw nearer. Oh, and I WILL make special trips back for weddings if you are wanting to book me for your big day. Heck, I'd travel anywhere to shoot a wedding! In the meantime, I am still booking photo shoots in the Omaha area up until I leave. Please contact me via phone or email to set sometime up before I move!

Wednesday Wedding Ispiration: Peacock

So...I was so close do doing a peacock theme at my wedding. And no, not pictures of big beautiful birds everywhere, but the color pallet from their feathers...okay and maybe some actual feathers in the bouquet and centerpieces. I decided to pass on the idea when I had heard about the millions of other brides following this theme, but secretly, I still heart the idea. Here is a storyboard with some fun colors and ideas. I LOVE the purple. I know purple isn't one of the main colors in a peacock feather (think more brown, teal, blue, gold), but I adore the purple with it! Enjoy and Happy Hump Day!

The boutonniere and invites are A-MAZING! I'll keep these in mind when I have a vow renewal later on in life! ;0)

Help Us Find Allen

Have you ever had someone in your life you really cared about that you lost touch with and are now struggling to find? Maybe your childhood friend, college roommate, an old co-worker? How about a sibling? How about your brother? Luckily I have everyone in my immediate family in my life and speak to/see them on a pretty regular basis. Until a year ago, this wasn't the case for my momma.

I have an uncle, Rodney, who like my mom, hadn't seen for 14 years. He and my mother were very close growing up and when I was in the 4th or 5th grade my they lost track of each other. She called past employers, hospitals, the VA, city halls where we thought he may be living, did a name search and contacted individuals with the same name, but nothing seemed to turn positive results. Until a year ago we had given up. One day as I sat there thinking of any other possible way to help my mom find her brother, it came to mind that I had a cousin who was around the age of 16. What 16 year old doesn't have a Facebook or Myspace, right? Facebook--struck out! Darn! Myspace--so I typed in his name and 3 different profiles popped up. OH MY GOSH!!! There he is! I had last seen him at the age of two but it was very very easy to tell which one he was. He looked the same, just an older version. I sent him a message and about a month of waiting to hear back (he didn't check his Myspace often) he replied and we got a phone number. My mom called her brother right away! He was so happy to hear from her and after months of chatting on the phone, they were finally re-united face to face! My mom is so happy! She feels complete again to have her brother back in her life. I am so happy for her. Thanks Myspace!!!

For the last couple of years, a dear friend of mine Lisa, has been searching for her brother Alan. She has had no success at all and I can only imagine her frustrations and how sad she is. We started a Facebook group about a year ago but there have been no results in the search for Alan. I wanted to take another step in helping Lisa find her brother and I figured this would be a good way. Please, if anyone is out there who knows how to find a missing person, we need your help! Lisa has tried everything she can think of, but so far and has nothing. If you could all pass this post on to your friends, family, everyone you know...maybe we can somehow find Alan. Below is a description of Alan and what Lisa knows of his last whereabouts and what she has done so far to look for him. I have also included some picture. Thank you in advance for all of your help!

"Hey Everyone!I cannot imagine there is not someone out there that can help me find my brother, I'm asking for anyones help...please share this note with anyone and everyone in hopes that my big brother can be found safe and sound and knows that his family is there for him no matter what his troubles are health or financial.Been a little of 2 years since anyone has seen or heard from him. I last saw him Thanksgiving day 2006. Here is the skinny on him and what the family and I have done to find him. All is a Vietnam Vet. He was in the Navy for 8 years 71-79, worked in electronics. Was a member of the Eagles Club Aerie 80 in Superior WI. Was a very good bowler, bowling several leagues. Alan had a son that was born in '76 with heart defects. His son died on Valentines Day '77. Was married once to Myron, had a step son named John. I want to give enough information, but don't want to give too much information. In Feb '07 Alan left a note with his Brother's and Sisters at the Eagles club. Stating that he had health issues and that he couldn't get local VA benefits. He stated that he found a facility in Texas that would cover 80% of the costs with his consent for further research. In this letter he listed a special thanks to 4 people. So far we have...listed him as a missing person in the state of WI ( that is where his last residence was)Called the VA hospitals in Texas...but with the new HIPPA laws of course stand in our way of finding out anything... was hoping one would slip up though. None did. Went through Governor Culver's office in Iowa. He suggested I send letters to Social Security Department and One other department that has to do with the service. I was to write a letter to Alan and they would forward on if they had his address. The armed services had his 1991 address as the last address. And the Social Security department, sent me the letter back. No information. I believe that mom said that the last time his social security number was used was in Dec of '07. (Correct me if I'm wrong mom.)I went to the Vietnam Veterans of America office in Des Moines also. They could not help me out either. We have talked to his friends from the Eagles Club and they are as concerned with finding him as we are. I cannot give up looking for him, but I'm afraid i have exhausted any of my leads, so I'm asking for any help anyone can give. If you know of someone that may be able to help me please forward my info or send me any info. Thanks!!!Signed Missing My Brother!!"

Wednesday Wedding Inspiration

So, I've decided to move Woots & Boots to a different day simply because wedding and Wednesday just sound so much better together. Catchy huh? Amy like! I came up with the idea yesterday to post some inspirational wedding ideas on Wednesdays after I caught myself going wedding planner psycho on a cool chica who is buying a lot of my leftover decorations and centerpieces from my wedding. Okay, maybe not psycho, but I found myself wanting to help someone plan their big day who lives over 15 hours away and that I barely know. I've been like this since I had started planning my wedding in Sept of '08, right after Tony proposed. Anyone I've come into contact with who was or is getting married, I've felt like I NEED to give input on ideas and planning. Everyone has been pretty open too. Maybe it's because I seem so super passionate about it! I LOVE coordinating colors and putting ideas together. My wedding design and decor was classy but spunky at the same time. Everyone at my wedding kept saying that, "this wedding is totally you, Amy!" I loved all of the planning, though very stressful, I still loved it. If I could go back and do it again, I have 3 other ideas in the back of my mind for themes and decor. Sadly I can't, but I'll just keep those ideas in mind when I go sister'zilla" on my little sis Katie when her big day comes along! RAARRR! Just kidding... I wasn't a bridezilla at all on my day and everyone can vouch for me on that.

So anywho, I have decided that each Wednesday, I will feature wedding ideas that I love. It may be a storyboard that I put together or a photographers blog that I follow featuring a wedding they have shot. The very first wedding that I'd like to give attention to comes from the amazing blog of Ryan, of RCJones Photography. I've been creeping on Ryan's blog for quite some time and finally had the guts to reach out to him yesterday. The guys got MAD SKILLS! He's got some pretty creative angle's and poses going on while still having the photojournalistic look. The color and sharpness of his images are outstanding and his clients look like they are having a blast! I have really loved following his work in the last few months or so but this wedding he shot really got me...hook, line, and sinker!!! Ryan- you are a rockstar! Hopefully my images can be as awesome as yours someday! Thanks for being super cool and letting me feature your photos!

Okay, so this couple is super hot! I can't even begin to explain the theme of this wedding! Feathers, fishnets, rockstar hair, jewels, super sassy dress! Sassy...I like that as a theme name. First of all, I love black and white weddings (guess what my wedding colors were?). Black & white is extremely classy and you can throw any other color, except maybe brown, in to the mix and spice things up. Red is my favorite color of all time, but I refused to have red as one of my colors just because red seems so predictable with black and white and so many people do it. I LOVE the red in this wedding though. It wasn't overdone and is only in the flowers. And this bride and groom had a way to offset it with some other accent colors like the turquoise, cream, and brown feathers the maids had in their hair! Genius!!

Wanted: Vintage/Old Furniture

I am on the hunt for a some vintage or older pieces of furniture as props for my 2010 shoots! Right now I have a yellow, victorian looking chair and a red, retro looking love seat. If you or anyone you know who has furniture they are selling for a decent price or looking to get rid of, I'd LOVE to hear about it. I would prefer chairs, stools, or anything smaller. Sadly I don't have the room for couches and such at this time! Also, vintage luggage is another thing on my list!

Woots/Boots

I know ya'll have been missing my woots and boots over the past couple of weeks! So sorry! Things have been busy. I am actually writing this on Monday evening and dating it to post on Wednesday just so I don't forget this week. I have a busy couple of days and then am off on my mini vaca!

Woots:

Delta Airlines: Direct flight from Omaha to Salt Lake City! THANKS Delta!

My step-mom: I love her to death and am so happy my dad found her---but this shout out is for her cooking! Pretty sure I packed on the pounds when I went home for Christmas!

After Christmas sales: This is the BEST time to buy Christmas wrap. I love buying the wrapping paper, bows, ribbon, bags, and cute little gift tags just as much if not more than what I like actually buying the gifts. I'd be a gift wrap designer if I could! I found some steals at Target on Sunday! They have a yummy selection of paper for 50% off!

Red Lipstick: I finally took the plunge and tried it out. I bought a super cheap brand just to see if I liked it and I got a couple of compliments on Saturday night. I WILL be purchasing the Russian Red from Mac asap!

Boots:

Christmas Blizzard of 09: If you live in the Midwest, you experienced it first hand. If you don't, I'm sure you were lucky enough to see it on t.v. I think Mother Nature and The Grinch got together for a cup of tea a few days prior to Christmas Eve and cooked up a mean little plan. Bah humbug!

Wisdom Teeth: Why do you have to surprise me every few months and poke up out of no where?

Christmas cookies, candy, sweets, blah: I have a love/hate relationship (but mostly LOVE) with sweets and the waistband of my pants has taken a beating in the last few weeks. Back to my pre wedding diet. UGH!

I am off to my favorite place on the planet (Utah-insert smile face) this afternoon and will return on the 3rd! I am so excited to see Tony's fam and for NYE festivities! I'll be sure to post pictures of some beautiful scenery when I return!

Utah Vacation & my 100th POST!

That's right! On vaca starting tomorrow!!! I am so excited to get to spend the next 4.5 days in the beautiful beehive state! My hubs is originally from a little town in southern Utah and this will be my first time getting to see the state in winter wonderland mode! I CAN'T WAIT! We don't really have much of a plan. All I really want to see in the Salt Lake Temple at night and his family of course. A majority of our time though will be spent in East Carbon (Tony's hometown) and Price, UT which is a town not far away. Check out the scenery below! GAWWWWGEOUS!

Oh and of course...my 100th post! I cannot believe it! Time has flown by since I started this blog! And not to mention, my facebook fan page (found here) rose to over 700 fans today! My intentions were to maybe have 1 or 2 photo shoots per month and that sure didn't happen. In the month of August I had my best month at 10 shoots. That's a lot of photography piled onto a 45 hour work week at my full time job.

I have so many new and exciting things for my photography future in the next year. One things for sure...a new blog...that has my name and my name only in the web address. Sorry blogger, you have been good to me but it's time for this little lady to upgrade. Coming hand in hand with the new blog...a website (WOOO...and the crowd goes wild!!!!) A new and IMPROVED camera! Only a couple more weeks and this chica will be rockin' it "new"school! I've started a lens collection but there are for sure 2 others that I'd like to add to the mix in this next year. Prints! Yes ladies and gents, Amy is not only taking rockstar photos but she is puttin' them on paper for you too!

I am so looking forward to this next year! I have 6 weddings booked from April-August and a couple of others in the works. I have big plans for a few FREE senior shoots and some other "top secret" plans (don't worry you'll know about them soon) up my sleeve!

I want to say thanks to everyone who has been there to encourage me and for those who have given me the opportunity to capture your happy smiles and beautiful moments. All of the facebook suggestions and referrals have been greatly appreciated! No doubt about it, my clients are the greatest! I have met some amazing people through all of this, to include some other rockin' photogs. Thanks again to everyone! I really love my life right now and couldn't ask for anything more!

McKenzie & Cy: Engaged

I am so excited for these two...so excited it brings tears to my eyes. I have known McKenzie for 7 years and Cy just about as long. Kenz is one of my friends from college and we've really had some great times together. She was in my wedding in November and now I am so excited to be a part of hers by capturing her beautiful day! I love you guys so much! You deserve nothing but the most happy, beautiful life together!

Winter Wonderland!

I left Omaha yesterday early afternoon to head to my hometown for Christmas. The trip usually takes me right around an hour and a half but yesterday it took a little over two hours. We got hit by a blizzard and its been snowing since around noon yesterday! My little hometown of 600 looks like a mini version of the North Pole right now! Luckily Santa was able to make it last night and brought me a pretty sapphire ring and a gift card to my favorite camera supply store Best Buy!

I love coming home to the beautiful decorations at my dad's house! I didn't put up a lot this year so this was such a warming but expected surprise! Here is just a mini preview! I'll be sure to post more! Hope you are all enjoying your day, snowed in or not, and getting in some good quality time with family and friends!

I felt so bad for my dad this morning while he was out in the blowing, freezing weather. My step-mom Camille reassured me that he was fine though. After watching him four about 10 minutes I realized she was right. He was have a blast flying up and down the street/driveway on his 4wheeler!

Paying It Forward

So, my friends Jodi and Ashley came up with this idea to go "Extreme Makeover-Bathroom Addition" on our friend Stef's bathroom. I had the opportunity to help them out and we had a blast. And what a great feeling it was to make an impact in the life of another. Impact? Re-doing someones bathroom? To some of you this may not seem like much of an impact, but to Stef, it meant more than we could ever know.

Stef is the type of person who puts everyone before herself. EVERYONE! In the 2+ years that I have known her, I can't recall the amount of times she has done me a favor, given me advice, and invited me into her family with big loving arms. Oh and her family...AMAZING! Her husband Brian is the sweetest man I know next to Tony, I'd say they run together neck and neck in my eyes. She has three children, McKenna, Peyton, & Beckett that I love very dearly. The kids are involved in everything and anything. Stef & Brian are always on the go. And the kids are so smart. Stef and Brian are the type of people that if they had 1 dollar left to their name, they'd spend it to better the life of their children.

In the 6 hours it took us to re-do the bathroom, Jodi mentioned that she felt like she was, "paying it forward." She wanted Stef and her family to have a nice new bathroom. Everything inside from the colors, to the blessings frame, the the fragrance was totally Stef! Ashley's fiance Drew had a voucher for a free nights stay at one of the Casino/Hotels in town and was nice enough to give it to Brian and Stef for a night away! The kiddos stayed at their Grandma's, and Jodi, Ashley, and I started on the bathroom at 8 p.m. and were finished by 2 a.m. We also had a late Walmart run thrown in there. I'd say we had stellar timing! I had my camera ready to go for the unveiling the next day but decided after her first peek that I didn't want to take any pictures. The moment she first looked inside was more touching than I had expected and I felt like this was a moment that was for Stef, and just for her. Below are pictures of the before and after.

New Glass :)

I've been waiting for this little guy to get here for almost a month!!!! None of the Bestbuy stores in town had it and it was on back order with their online store for nearly three weeks! What a great surprise I came home to today!!! My little Nikon-Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AF Lens! The price was fantastic and the reviews on this lens are great! I couldn't be happier with what I have seen so far!

I am so excited to get to use it on PEOPLE! I took the photo of my Archie Bear with the new lens...check out that bokeh!!!!! What is bokeh you might ask??? Read about it here. Happy Monday!!!
